Don't know why I feel so lazy to blog about major events... Hmm it's been 5 days since Amplitude 2006 and I am still under the hyped kind of feelings... jumping around ever since Sunday night. The feeling of content? Hmm.... perhaps, but I am now more keen on improving the quality of the event next year. Argh think I am getting obssessed.
Anyway, here's an account of what happened on Sunday (shheesh sounds like a report!!). Although it's been days somehow I can still remember the details vividly... dunno why... Oh well anyway, I woke up at 7.45am, extraordinarily calm. I felt a little anxious, but I told myself, hey, everything is going to be fine. So just relax and get things going. Oh well, then started to pack up my shampoos and towels and the other 2 sets of attires (formal for Choir, informal for A Cappella), meanwhile procrastinating here and there (yes, "momososo"). Went down at about 9.15am to the bus stop. Slightly later than the rest of my first-hand team (Michael, Tianyi, and Ji'an) Reached UCC nevertheless at about 10am. Oh for those who does not know what UCC is, it means University Cultural Centre. This is the place whereby many events such as Hall Productions, Performances were held. Rushed to the backstage but surprisingly found TH Choir and A Cappella there already.. in front of DOME! Got a shock and thought I told them the wrong time. It turned out to be their Head told them to gather at 10.00am to warm up a little bit first for their rehearsal slot at 11.00am. Phew~! Ah anyway, then we met the backstage crews and went to the security office to collect backstage passes. Only when I went in had I realized that it was not that important afterall. What the Flower!!! I painstakingly collated a list of 209 people across all 6 Halls over the weekend, rushed other halls to pass me the relevant infos... now they tell me they will only give important personnels the passes as they have only 100 passes to give out. Urgh!!!! So I took 6 (4 initially, 2 more later for Wanyi (Photo Crew) and Ma Rong (Video Crew) )... 1 for Production Manager (which is myself), 1 for Stage Manager (which is Ji'an), 2 for my backstage crews (Amrita and Wei Yan, my AJC senior!). Anyway, we then proceed to the backstage. The technicians including Raj (the main person-in-charge). He rushed me to stage quickly and told me I am late (well, 2 minutes...) and asked me about the arrangements of the condensers, positioning of them and the risers, the mics for A Cappella and blah blah blah..... Oh well, then the time finally comes. Time to call in TH as the technicians are finishing their preparation of stage. They cooperated well, but it was a disappointment when I heard them singing... oh well... Thought they would sing well but it wasnt as I had imagined. Ah anyway, shouldnt comment on that too much. *sensitive issue* Anyway, after that came my very own Choir! They all came earlier than the stipulated time, and all cooperated well. I was quite satisfied. Then came Lindley and Chiao Tyan and they sat down and listened as the choir rehearsed. And it was pretty good, although there were still ugly notes (Sopranos will understand which song and which part I am referring to... hehe). But then before that TH took up some of our time so we did not have enough time to rehearse A Cappella... That is mainly my fault for our A Cappella's underperformance that night as I had to forfeit our time for A Cappella as we were eating into RH's rehearsal timeslot. Had a minor glitch with them over the performance stuffs too. Oh well, after which it was already 1.00pm and the technicians left for lunch time! Initially I wanted to follow the rest of the KE people back to PGP.. but then I realised I had to be back in UCC before 2.00pm... It was like by the time I reach PGP, it would be time for me to go back for afternoon rehearsal. Anyway, I chose to go back and asked Hoey Lit (the Emcee) to pack lunch for me, as I took a short rest in the dressing room assigned for my Hall, before the next round of rehearsal from 2.00pm to 5 .00pm started. So came EH then. For their rehearsal. The head was very cooperative, and he coordinated his Hall members. So it started. Then came NUS Choir, SH, and finally KR. Nothing much in detail as it went pretty smooth. Basically the whole day I was running around lah. Anyway, then it was about an hour before the show time. Until now i finally got the mood to sit down and eat (yes, my breakfast, my lunch, my dinner) ... Oh well by this time I was super hyped up for Amplitude already... after all these while... it finally comes! So it all started. Haha... finally the real show started. By the time it started the rest of the event all depended on my Stage Manager and my Emcee liao. Thanks Ji'an and Hoey Lit. You are simply the best! And the whole show lasted for exactly 2 hours! Started at 7.32pm and ended at 9.30pm genau! Everything went on very smoothly and people are just hyped up by the last song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" , sung of course by my very own A Cappella. There were lots of screw-ups but it turned out to be super entertaining to the audiences. Oh well... trade off? Entertaining in a wrong way, so as Chiao Tyan said. I think the overall quality of the event is better than last year's la. More improvements are still yet to come! Even for my own Choir and A Cappella, I have the guts to say we are much better than last year. The wasted part was the underperformance of A Cappella but we did give our best. Sometimes circumstances just does not go according to how you wish things to happen. For the first song: A Change in My Life, originally sang by Rockapella, was still okay, but Mister Sandman was rather not as good as we rehearsed. Too nervous maybe? Anyway, KR A Cappella is still making me left aghast. Haha... Oh well... perhaps one day we could reach their standard as well? Learnt many new stuffs organizing Amplitude! Adobe Photoshop for one and now learning to use Cakewalk to scribe and arrange songs in A Cappella version! A Cappella rocks! Getting hooked to A Cappella liao.. haha Well well pretty long blog huh... haha... thanks for reading! Thanks to those who really went through with me through this process. I don't know how to express my gratitude as it is more than the word thanks. Thanks everyone! |
