Finally one of my wishes come true as a birthday present! Can't believe it that it came true on my own accord: I paid for it as a birthday gift for myself. Haha... ok la no big deal. But anyway, last evening was one of the most enjoyable evening of my stay in Singapore. Perhaps of my entire lifetime too. If you've checked out my Friendster profile you'd probably have read this sentence about me wanting to meet any of the Rockapella members. And it came true! Not just ANY - I met ALL of them! Their concert at Esplanade was just so superbly done, no adjectives in any language could be used to describe how good it was.
Ok, maybe I was just too amazed at the standard of performance given by an overseas professional A Cappella group. But seriously they are among the best in the world I should say. From the tenors to the basses to the vocal percussionist. Their stage presence, their style of performance, their comminucation with the audience and their way of engaging the audiences... It was just very professional and yet very very entertaining. The songs are all well arranged, and they must have spent lots of effort and time practising the songs. Not easy at all. I guess they are very fair to each other too as each singer takes turn to be a soloist - including the G-Man Bass and the vocal percussionist!
Every single one of them is good. From Scott Leonard to George Baldi III (he once sang with Boys II Men for your info) to Jeff Thatcher to the other 2 tenors, all with voices so wonderful that they could melt all the women's heart in the Concert Hall. Jeff Thatcher (a.k.a. the Vocal Percussionist) was so remarkable, the mighty monkey A who is crazy only for the Rock genre of songs, was marvelled at his performance and has since opened his eyes on A Cappella which is new to him! George Baldi III is another singer (other than the all-talented composer-arranger-singer-tenor Scott Leonard) whom I was really marvelled at. His bass voice is.... sexy. Haha.. dunno how to describe it, but you can really feel the song tightly and deeply anchored with his bass. If only I could sound as bassy as he is, as sexy as it is! Wondered why they all call him the G-man, I think coz he can reach G 2 octaves below the middle C? Muahaha...
I should say overall it was a concert worth while going. I definitely did not waste my one day pay on them and they certainly have given me great motivation in A Cappella singing (although throughout the concert I feel absolutely completedly inferior.. haha) and my passion to make A Cappella popular in this region!
